Pipe Freeze Protection Self-Regulating Cables provide an effective and affordable solution for the freeze protection of water pipes. They are suitable for use on metal and plastic pipes. Typical applications would be the protection of boiler condensate pipes, exposed water pipes in residential homes, farm buildings, stables, garages, lofts, etc.
Self-regulating cables (or trace cables) are supplied by the metre and can be cut to length on site minimising wastage. This trace heating range will not produce dangerous hot spots even when cables are touching or overlapping.
To provide pipe freeze protection self-regulating cables are simply taped along the bottom of the pipe. Both variations (10W/m and 20W/m) can be used when straight tracing pipes between 15mm and 150mm in diameter.
For plastic pipes we recommend the use of aluminium foil tape to provide better heat dispersion. Moreover, for maximum protection, all trace heated pipes should always be insulated.
A connection kit, which includes crimps and heat shrink insulation (KIT 4 from the accessories list), will be required per circuit installed. The components of this kit are needed to make a cold tail connection to the trace cable and to seal its end. Cold tail of a required length would need to be purchased separately from a local electrical supplier.
Self-regulating heating element constantly uses a bit of energy, even when no freezing weather conditions are present. Hence, for a more economical and efficient usage, most customers choose to install a frost thermostat, which can be sourced from any electrical supplier.
Advantages
- Easy termination
- Time saving
- Economical
