Our XPS Thermal Insulation Board is a 6 mm extruded polystyrene sheet that goes directly beneath carbon underfloor heating film. It stops warmth escaping down into the subfloor and also serves as the underlay for your laminate or engineered wood floor, so one product does both jobs.
Supplied in packs of 5 m², 10 m² and 20 m² to suit the size of your room.

Key features

- Sends the heat from the film up into the room instead of down into the floor below
- Works as the flooring underlay too, so no separate underlay is needed
- Only 6 mm thick, keeping the overall floor build-up low
- Light and easy to cut to shape with a sharp knife
Where to use it
Every carbon underfloor heating film installation needs a layer of insulation board underneath the film. It suits floating floors such as laminate and engineered wood laid over the heating film.
In conservatories and rooms with a cold or poorly insulated subfloor, we suggest fitting two layers of board where the door thresholds allow the extra height.
Installation
- Cover the whole room with board, wall to wall, not just the area where the heating film will be laid.
- Butt the boards up tightly and tape every joint with our heavy duty adhesive tape.
- Lay the heating film on top, followed by the polyester vapour barrier and then your floor covering.
- Add around 10% to your floor area to allow for cutting and offcuts.
