Thermostat Guide

Not sure which thermostat you need? Each product below is labelled with its brand, and the icons show what it can control, whether it connects to Wi-Fi with a phone app, and how it is installed. A green tick means yes, a red cross means no.

What the icons mean

Infrared panels: Can control infrared heating panels.
Underfloor heating: Suitable for electric underfloor heating (heating film or mats). Comes with, or connects to, a floor probe that protects the floor from overheating.
Wi-Fi & phone app: Connects to your home Wi-Fi so you can change the temperature and schedule from your phone.
Voice control: Works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice control.
Hard-wired: Wired into the mains supply by a qualified electrician.
Plug-in: Plugs into a wall socket, no electrician needed.
Battery, wireless: Runs on batteries and sends its signal wirelessly to a receiver, so no cable is needed at the thermostat.

Which one do I need?

  • Underfloor heating film or mats: a hard-wired thermostat with a floor probe, such as the FlexelTouch, FlexelTouch WiFi or Heatmiser V3. Never use a plug-in thermostat for underfloor heating.
  • Hard-wired infrared panels: any of the hard-wired thermostats, or the Flexel V22 wireless thermostat with a V23 receiver if you want no cable to the thermostat.
  • Infrared panels or heaters with a plug: the Smart Wi-Fi Plug-In Thermostat (up to 2.5 kW).
  • Herschel Select XLS heaters: the Herschel T-MT, T-PL or T-BT, which pair wirelessly with the heater, or one of the general thermostats above.
  • A whole home with several rooms: the Flexel V24 WiFi control panel with V22 thermostats and V23 receivers.
